In mid-January, we told you that on Facebook they would be working on a smart speaker with a screen focused on communication. In particular, such a device would be launched in May next year. Despite this, as Bloomberg echoes, everything seems to indicate that Facebook has put the development of the invention on hold, something that is not surprising at a time when Facebook is on everyone’s lips because of the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
Facebook would have put the launch of its smart speaker on hold
As you know, this is one of the biggest scandals the social network has ever experienced, so it’s no wonder that Facebook has decided to wait for the storm to pass before launching its smart speaker. Given that many users are still reluctant to install an intelligent speaker in their homes for privacy reasons, the Facebook device could become a massive failure if the company decides to launch it during F8, the developer conference in May.
At this point, it’s interesting to remember that we first heard about Facebook’s interest in making a physical device in the summer of last year, although it wasn’t until last January that we learned that it was a smart speaker for the home. Meanwhile, companies like Google, Amazon, and Apple already have their intelligent speakers on the market, companies that Samsung would soon join with their smart speakers with built-in Bixby. We will remain vigilant to any new developments in this regard.
