Facebook allows 3D photos in the newsfeed

Following Facebook’s announcement in May that it would be able to integrate 3D photos into its platform, the social network has today officially launched this feature for users. In this sense, the feature uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create a depth perspective on 3D photos.

The company clarified in a statement that this feature will only be available in portrait mode for compatible iPhone models. Regarding the performance of the property, the company explained:

“Whether it’s a picture of your pet, your friends or a beautiful place from your last vacation, you simply take a picture in portrait format with your compatible smartphone with two lenses and then share it as a 3D photo on Facebook. Then lean forward to see the photo in realistic 3D as if you were looking through a window.”

In this way, Facebook users have the opportunity to see the images in Augmented Reality via the newsfeed, which means that when using the Oculus Rift or other virtual reality glasses, the experience becomes much more impressive and satisfying. In terms of the ability to create and share 3D photos, this feature will be implemented today and will be fully available to everyone in the coming weeks.

As we mentioned earlier, the disadvantage is that the feature is only available to iPhone users and there is no information about when it will officially arrive on the Android operating system. In the case of iPhone users, implementation is gradual, so it may take some time for you to see it available on your Facebook account.

Facebook, for its part, has some tips in its publication for creating professional-level 3D photos, or at least so you can create good pictures and share them in your profile.
