After Microsoft stopped selling its products in Russia, Electronic Arts also announced that it had taken the same action and stopped trading its games and content in the country.
According to the official statement posted on the company’s website, the decision to suspend sales was made due to the recent Russian attacks in Ukraine. EA called for peace and an end to the Russian invasion and expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
The company had previously announced that it would remove the country’s national team and clubs from FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile, FIFA Online, and NHL 22.
Electronic Arts said that its biggest concern was the safety of people in war-affected regions and that it was trying to support partners in the conflict zone as much as possible.
Suspension in Belarus
EA also confirmed that it was blocking trade of its products in Belarus: “We have made the decision to halt sales of our games and content, including virtual currency packs, in Russia and Belarus for the duration of this conflict. As a result, our games and content will no longer be available for purchase in our store for the Russian region on Origin or in the EA app, including in-game stores.”
“We are also working with our platform partners to remove our titles from their stores and suspend sales of new game content in the region,” EA concluded.
The company also says the worrying situation is prompting it to evaluate other areas of activity, with any action or measures announced to the wider public.
In addition to Microsoft and EA, other companies such as Intel and AMD have already taken a public stance against Russia. Ukrainian Vice President Mykhailo Fedorov this week called on some companies to halt their operations in the Vladimir Putin-led country.
