The Russian company Deus has introduced its first Odin glasses for SteamVR, which will be launched with high-resolution 4K screens and a tracking system that can cover larger areas.
The Odin VR glasses offer 4K resolution and are compatible with all SteamVR games
The Odin headphones will offer users two screens with a resolution of 2160×2160, which corresponds to a combined resolution of 4320×2160 and a field of view of 110 degrees, which corresponds to a resolution increase of almost 7.2 times over the HTC Vive and 2 times over the HTC Vive Pro. In addition, Deus’ Horus’ laser stations will provide wide-angle projections as Valve’s Lighthouse System, which offers a maximum tracking area of 200 square meters and supports more base stations to cover larger areas. This is very positive as it will allow greater freedom of movement.
In February, Deus plans to launch its Odin pre-headset, which offers developers a 3DoF driver. This model will cost an estimated $1100 and is intended for developers and business customers. A refined consumer version of the glasses will be launched in summer 2019 with 6DoF controllers offering better tracking and an Oculus-style appearance.
The Odin is said to be the first VR glasses to use VirtualLink’s standard USB-C cable for connection, although it is currently unknown whether end users will be able to use other types of connections, either via an adapter or not.
