Crucial announces a new family of SSDs, the Crucial BX500, which approach the entry-level offer with multiple features and an aggressive pricing policy. It starts at $29.99.
The BX500 is a SATA III SSD in 2.5-inch format. It comes with the storage capacity of 120, 240 and 480 GB versions. Its mechanics use NAND Micro 3D chips. In terms of performance, we have speeds of 540 MB/s and 500 MB/s for sequential reading and writing. The display does not show IOPS values when handling 4K files.

It is crucial that these innovations benefit from several SSD-specific technologies. We find e.g. TRIM, ECC, thermal monitoring or SLC write acceleration.
Finally, on the price side, the announced prices are among the lowest on the market. The 120GB BX500 was announced for $29.99 versus $49.99 for the 240GB version and $89.99 for the 480GB model. Availability is expected in September.
