KDDI Research Institute announced on 16th March that the company has developed a prototype of an IoT gadget. The new device has a device name Charging Robo which will search and charge a smartphone automatically.
While lots of gadgets (electronic devices) are full of personal belongings and life becomes very convenient. Charging a gadget has become an indispensable routine. When you wake up in the morning, before you leave. You gets a shock when you forget to charge or inconvenience when you are out of charge on the way. The company develops the new prototype with the goal of eliminating such an anxiety. The new “Charging Robo” expects to become a cute partner while relying on automatic finding and charging gadgets left on the table.
Charging Robo get rid of daily life charging of gadgets
Intelligent robot Charging Robo is an autonomous mobile robot that automatically searches and charges smartphones and equipped with a camera. It also has a distance measuring sensor, and a microprocessor board such as Raspberry Pi Zero. It automatically recognizes the condition from its desktop hub from the installed camera. And searches for a smartphone while avoiding falling from obstacles and desks.
Now comes the most interesting part, when Charging Robo finds a smartphone, it recognizes the USB port and automatically connects to the smartphone and charges it. When charging is completed, it leaves the smartphone and automatically returns to the desktop charging station to charge itself. By devising image processing and system control, Charging Robo has advanced operation with the realization containing only with inexpensive parts.

In addition, “Charging Robo” was awarded a special prize on 9th September 2016 at “Android Experiments OBJECT” that was sponsored by Google.
From March 24 (Fri) to March 26th (Sun ), the manufacturer company will exhibit the new prototype at the exhibition event “Android Experiments OBJECT” of the 2nd floor of Niko Tamagawa Ikutani Home Appliance. At this venue, you can walk around the table and see Robo charging the Android smartphones.
