Intel wants to be very aggressive with its prices by the time the new tenth generation Core X (Cascade Lake X) processors come on the market. In a report on Videocardz, a price list of its processors seems to have been filtered with some very interesting numbers. Let’s check it out.
In this (unofficial) price list, the expected Core i9-10980XE of 18 cores is placed in “only” 979 USD (unit price of 1000). This is surprisingly low considering that the Core i9-9980XE is sold for around USD 2,000 in retail, but there is a very good reason to make the move on AMD Ryzen 9 3950X.
Cores / Threads | Clock Base | Max Boost Clock | TDP | Price (x1000U) | |
Core i9-10980XE | 18/36 | 3.0GHz | 4.8GHz | 165W | $ 979 |
Core i9-10940XE | 14/28 | 3.3GHz | 4.8GHz | 165W | 784 USD |
Core i9-10920XE | 12/24 | 3.5GHz | 4.8GHz | 165W | $ 689 |
Core i9-10900XE | 10/20 | 3.7GHz | 4.7GHz | 165W | 590 USD |
Cascade Lake-X Prices Comparison with AMD masterpieces
The new range of HEDT CPUs will not offer more cores than their predecessors, but slightly higher clock rates. The main advantage will be the drastic price reduction with a range of up to 2.09 times relative performance per dollar compared to Skylake-X CPUs like the Core i9-7980XE. Intel’s problem is that the Ryzen 9 3950X will have higher frequencies and more cores than any other third-generation Ryzen CPU (16 cores), in addition to balancing or improving Intel Core to Core options in multithreaded tests. This chip costs $749, which made the i9-9980XE look extremely expensive.
We hope to receive confirmed prices and specifications soon. While this information is a “rumor” or “leak” at the moment, the prices with the precautions of the case more or less match what I would expect from Intel if I had the Ryzen 9 3950X to do much damage in the HEDT segment.
