Asus would work on a ROG Phone Lite model

Asus caused a sensation this summer at Computex when they introduced the powerful, player-oriented ROG Phone. Using its leading brand for PC games, Asus presented a mobile phone with a higher speed than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 series, a GameCool 3D steam camera cooling system and a detachable AeroActive cooler with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB or 512GB UFS 2.1 memory.

Asus ROG Phone Lite could cost around 600 Euro.

The phone was crowned with a 6 inch, 90 Hz AMOLED HDR display with a response time of 1ms.

Although we saw the Asus ROG Phone in a demonstration on Computex, it has not yet been released. At the beginning of this month, it was presented on a Finnish website with pre-orders starting from 999 Euro. The current range of ASUS phones consists of ZenFone 5Z (High-End), ZenFone 5 (Mid-Range) and ZenFone 5Q (or 5 Lite).

Documents recently discovered and shared by the Chinese regulator TENAA suggest that Asus is preparing a range of ROG phones for different budgets. Besides the high-end version with 8 GB, which we saw at Computex, the documents show that there will be variants with 4 GB, 6 GB, and 8 GB RAM. The processor options seem to remain unchanged for the 2.95 GHz SD845, as do the 128 GB or 512 GB memory options. However, the battery capacity seems to be lower than indicated on the Computex; a 3850mAh battery instead of a 4000mAh battery.

It will be interesting to see if Asus has made further cost reductions on specifications that are not documented by TENAA, such as changes in display style and specifications. Asus was able to reduce the price to $600, according to the Android Authority, with a new model of ROG Phone more modest. A good move, as long as it does not dilute the appeal of ROG and retains the functions of a game-oriented phone.
