Apple’s new 18W USB-C charger for the iPhone

Recent rumours have suggested that Apple could include a USB-C charger in the box of the next iOS devices to be released this year, replacing the USB connection that we are most used to seeing and using with dozens of devices. Now, some images are being filtered out that could, perhaps, be confirming such intentions.

The new Apple USB-C Charger

This new, hypothetical 18W Lightning to USB-C cable would allow faster charging of devices without users having to resort to separate charging accessories, at a cost. However, if you think about it, many users will have to get a USB-C to USB adapter whenever they want or need to charge their device on a computer other than a MacBook or using another wall charger, a power strip with integrated USB connections, and so on.

The new photos that accompany this post have been published by Chongdiantou and show us what is supposed to be a prototype of the real version of the USB-C charger that will accompany the next iPhone in the United States. However, as MacRumors points out, it should be noted that its veracity could not be confirmed.

The charger design is in line with previous versions, with a compact 5W Charger-style body that Apple has always included in the iPhone case: a pair of American plugs on one side, and a USB-C connector on the other. However, the charger looks a little thicker than usual.

The text it includes is also somewhat different, although this may be due to its prototype nature. This text classifies it under model number A1720, also in accordance with the nomenclature used by Apple, and confirms that it offers an output of up to 5V at 3A (15W) or 9V at 2A (18W).
