A few weeks ago we informed you that Apple had bought a start-up creator of lenses for augmented reality glasses. In recent hours, we’ve heard that Apple bought Spektral, which is a real-time video editing start-up last December to improve its augmented reality technology.
We’re talking about Spektral, a small Danish company that specializes in machine learning. In particular, Spektral’s main product is software that is able to remove the background of any video in real time, a technology that could have numerous applications in Apple. The Danish daily Børsen has uncovered the news, although the acquisition has remained secret since December when the contract was signed. According to Fortune, Apple would have bought Spektral for $30 million.
The impact of the purchase could be enormous for the company, especially considering Apple’s interest in the augmented reality sector, an area the company has been active in for some time. It is important to remember that there are rumors that Apple is planning to bring to market a device that focuses on augmented reality product and that will be launched in 2020. But for now, we have to wait until we know what they’re working on at Apple.
