From 24 June, Android application icons will have the same shape as the iOS icons in the Play Store. Developers are expected to create squares with rounded edges.
In its blog for Android, Google announces that all symbols will soon have the same shape in the Play Store. In a few days, developers will be able to upload a new version of their icons in a square with rounded edges (512 x 512 x 512), very similar to iOS. This new form will be binding from May 1st and all old icons will be automatically converted from June 24th.
From 24 June, Google will standardize its Application Store. The most popular operating system will, therefore, lose some of the originality for which it is known, and come closer to Apple’s iOS, which has never allowed a shape other than a square with rounded edges. The company says it wants to help users focus on the logo rather than the shape to help them navigate (and buy) better in the Play Store.
However, in its blog, Google assures us that the new icons are only mandatory in the Play Store. Nothing changes on the home screen or in the application selector.
