According to Mercury Research, AMD currently has a market share of 24.6% in x86 CPUs. AMD’s market share data shows that Ryzen processors are gaining ground on Intel in the x86 processor market.
AMD already has a 24.6% market share of x86 processors
Although it was a bad year for hardware, AMD’s numbers are very good. At the beginning of the year, the company focused on prioritizing its processors. This would have given the company great results and approached its highest market share ever. But that could change with the new Intel Alder Lake.
According to Mercury Research, AMD achieved a 24.6% market share in the x86 CPU segment last quarter. The data shows a 2.1% increase from the previous quarter.
AMD now holds nearly a quarter of the x86 CPU market share. The company peaked in the fourth quarter of 2006. At that time, the company achieved a 25.2% share. This is thanks to AMD K8 processors, which were very well received.
This quarter, the company is likely to improve its best-ever position. Even a 1% increase would still surpass this figure.
The strong increase in the x86 segment is mainly due to notebook solutions. The company achieved a market share of 22% in notebooks. This corresponds to an increase of 1.8% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
This improvement is also reflected in the company’s accounts. AMD’s accounts show that sales in the notebook market reached 16.2%. This was up 1.3% from the previous quarter and 3.9% from a year ago.
Some analysts believe it could reach a 30% market share next year. An increase in market share could be driven by 5nm-based Zen 4 processors. But Intel will certainly not make it easy for them.
