AMD: Third parties are free to create custom Radeon VII

AMD’s new Radeon VII was released, and KitGuru was eager to test the custom versions of the video board after the reviews. They spoke to all AMD partners, saying that they would not release custom versions of the Radeon VII, and even one said that AMD had imposed restrictions on them to only remove reference boards.

Some partners, such as Gigabyte and Sapphire, even stated that they would only release reference versions of the graphics card without planning to release a custom version.

So the KitGuru guys decided to talk directly to AMD to dispel their doubts. They talked to Joe Cowell, AMD’s UK representative, who said that “assembly partners are free to develop their modified versions according to customers’ needs.

This is a fairly open answer, as it is not exactly known whether they can use it to develop a completely new design for the PCB, or whether they can simply overclock the boards a little and add custom coolers.

They also talked to Andrew Gibson of Overclockers UK, a large UK shop, who told them that there are about 100 to 200 units for launch in the UK. He also said they have 79 units in stock at OCUK, from different brands like Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Sapphire and Powercolor, but all reference versions.
