AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX is the Cezanne H architecture notebook processor that uses the new Zen 3 cores. The APU showed up in Geekbench and showed quite interesting performance.
AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX laptop processor is faster than the i7-10700K
The AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX will offer 8 cores and 16 threads with 16 MB of L3 cache and 4 MB of L2 cache. The base clock is 3.30 GHz and the incremental clock is 4.70 GHz. It is shown that this speed is achieved on all cores. The integrated GPU is a Vega and can apparently be overclocked.
We used an ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE (GX551QS) notebook for the test. ASUS will offer the same notebook with a Tiger Lake-H processor. The laptop features 32 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and appears to have RTX 30 graphics. This laptop model would be unveiled at CES 2021.
Performance on GeekBench
The Ryzen 9 5900HX scored 1534 points in the single-core tests and 9015 points in the multi-core tests. Compared to the previous Ryzen 7 4800H, the Ryzen 9 5900HX is 41% faster in the single-core test and 36% faster in the multi-core test. That’s a huge step forward from one generation to the next.
Compared to desktop CPUs like the Ryzen 7 3800X or the Intel Core i7-10700K, AMD’s new laptop part leaves them behind in the multi-core test. In the end, it is 19% faster than the Ryzen 7 3800X and 14% faster than the Core i7-10700K. This is a bit of a feat, as these chips are designed for a much higher TDP.
The first laptops with the new Zen 3 APUs will be released in early 2021.
