AMD Ryzen 9 3950X reaches 5 GHz in all cores via LN2

AMD announced the new Ryzen 9 3950X processor. The rumored 16-core model Ryzen 9 was a reality and AMD presented it to the public during its conference at E3 2019. Hours after the presentation of the Ryzen 9 3950X it was possible to reach 5 GHz in all cores with this processor with LN2.

AMD Ryzen 9 breaking records

In terms of specifications, the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X will have the Zen 2 architecture of 7nm. There would be three chipplets in the Ryzen 9 that include two Zen 2 arrays and a single I/O array based on a 14 nm process node. The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X would be fully unlocked with 16 cores and 32 threads. AMD is the first vendor to provide users with such a large number of cores that were previously exclusively intended for HEDT platforms.

In terms of clock rates, the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X operates at a fundamental frequency of 3.5 GHz and increases to 4.7 GHz. The chip will have 72 MB total cache and 105 W TDP. When it comes to overclocking, we also know that the 3950X, like all other Ryzen CPUs, would have a soldered finish, which should contribute to better temperatures.

The Ryzen 9 3950X chip was overclocked at 5 GHz with a voltage of 1,608V in all 16 cores. The chip worked with LN2 and managed to break some world records. The processor worked with an MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE motherboard, which will be one of the best X570 motherboards at the launch of the platform in July. The processor also worked with a pair of G.Skill Trident Z Royal (DDR4) at 4533 MHz.

The three records broken during the overclocking session were:

  1. Cinebench R15: Ryzen 3950X @ 5434 points (previous record: Core i9-9960X @ 5320 points)
  2. Cinebench R20: Ryzen 3950X @ 12167 points (previous record: Core i9-7960X @ 10895 points)
  3. Geekbank 4: Ryzen 3950X @ 65499 points (previous record: Core i9-7960X @ 60991 points)
