Ryzen 3000 is on the verge of being launched on the market and several manufacturers have already added support for these new processors on their X370 and X470 motherboards. Now we have new information where we know the real code name of Ryzen 3000 and some new features that would come with it. Valhalla is an addition to the previous codenames of the next generation of AMD CPUs – Matisse, Renoir, Castle Peak and Rome. It was seen in a current version of UEFI during the release of AGESA 0.0.7.2 for a current Biostar motherboard with X470 chipset by Reddit user spikepwnz.
The developer of the Ryzen DRAM computer has listed some of the new features that may be included in the Ryzen 3000 processors, including CCD technology (Compute Core Design, a new name for CCX), support for up to 32 threads, and other features listed below:
From “Common options “Zen” to Common options “Valhalla”
The codename appears in the code section of the processor settings. The “Zen Common Options” were renamed “Valhalla Common Options”, so it is assumed that not only is the platform called Valhalla, but also the underlying architecture can be renamed from Zen to Valhalla.
- New memory controller with partial error correction for non-ECC memory
- Desktop processor with two (2 CCD) chipplets with up to 32 threads
- New MBIST (autotest integrated in memory)
- Core Watchdog – A security feature used to reboot a system if the microprocessor is lost due to address or data errors.
- XFR algorithm and limits have been updated. Scalar control returns with new processors.
- The updated kernel control has a symmetric configuration of the active kernels. In 2 CCD configurations, each chiplet has its own RAM channel to minimize latency for memory access.
- One more fact that has been revealed is that the Ryzen 3000 processors have the internal code name Valhalla. AMD seems to love Nordic mythology. The new Ryzen series processors will arrive in mid-2019. It is not yet entirely clear what exactly the code name Valhalla is all about. Some people also understand the term Nordic mythology as a side hit against Intel.
