AMD Ryzen 3000 paves the way with updates for X370 and X470 motherboards

It appears that motherboard manufacturers have commenced to add preliminary support for the new Ryzen 3000 processors of the X370 and X470 series. The launch of the AMD Ryzen Series Zen 2 processors is scheduled for mid-2019 and would result in faster clock speeds and more cores and efficiency using the new 7nm process technology.

A number of manufacturers have embarked on the process of adding support for future processors to their existing products. This is part of AMD’s commitment to making all Ryzen series compatible with existing AM4 motherboards.

Currently, ASUS, MSI and Biostar have released the new AGESA 0070 and AGESA 0072 upgrades for their respective motherboards. Not all motherboards currently receive BIOS updates, but they will do so soon, they say. Both ASUS and MSI clearly list that the BIOS supports “New Upcoming AMD CPU”, and since we know that there are no Zen+ processors in sight for the X470 or X370 platform, the only processors that make support meaningful are the AMD Ryzen 3000 series.

According to Wccftech sources, the first batch of technical samples of these new processors was delivered to partners in February and a newer batch is coming this month, so we understand that it makes sense to support them now from manufacturing partners.

This early support for Ryzen 3000 ensures that it has solid compatibility with the older X370 and X470 motherboards at the time of release. However, AMD is already paving the way for the launch of the X570 chipset with enhanced functionality for this new Ryzen series. We’ll keep you up to date.
