AMD is expanding its second generation threadripper line with the introduction of its new 12-core, 24-thread 2920X threadripper and the 24-core, 48-thread 2970WX threadripper.
These new processors complement the already announced 2900X, 2950X and 2990WX models and complete the line. Like the already introduced models, they have an incredible price: U$S 650 for the 2920X and U$S 1299 for the 2970WX.
With its 12 cores and 24 threads, the Ryzen 2920X is the entry-level model in the AMD Threadripper series. The processor has a master clock frequency of 3.5 GHz, which can be increased to 4.3 GHz under amplification. It also has 32 MB L3 cache and a 180 Watt TDP. This one is sold for 649 dollars.
Its big brother, the Ryzen 2970WX, brings more impressive specifications with 24 cores and 48 threads and a master clock frequency of 3.0 GHz, which in turn can be increased to 4.2 GHz. This chip gets 64 MB of L3 cache, along with a 250-watt TDP. If you want to buy this replica, you will have to pay a slightly higher price, $1299.
They will be available from 29 October in the main markets.
Finally, AMD has sent us a message about the introduction of Dynamic Local Mode. This software, which focuses on AMD’s high-end threadripper WX processors, is designed to improve performance in some tasks. Due to the unique MCM architecture (Multi-Chip Module) of these processors, they are not able to function so well in normal desktop applications. The software recognizes the application that can consume more memory, and then dynamically assigns this task to that with local memory controllers.
