AMD RX 7900: 200,000 units expected at launch

The launch of AMD’s RX 7900 series is imminent, and the number of GPU units shipped by Lisa Su is expected to surpass the launch of Nvidia’s RTX 40 series.

AMD seems to be trying to avoid a launch bottleneck as the number of GPUs shipped has reached 200,000 units. This quantity will be split between the two announced RX 7900 TX and RX 7900 XTX models, with the latter being the more powerful of the two. This information comes from HardOCP user Kyle Bennet, confirmed by multiple sources.

The official launch of the RX 7000 graphics cards is scheduled for December 13, so it won’t be long before these graphics cards are available in stores.

“AMD to ship more than 200,000 7900 XT and XTX GPUs in Q4. More than 30,000 reference cards on shelves on launch day”.

While the number doesn’t look too bad compared to Nvidia’s RTX 40 launch, it still lags behind other launches in terms of unit sales, as traditionally 10 million graphics cards are sold per quarter on average, which dropped to 7 million in the third quarter of this year, not including notebook GPUs.

These graphics cards are officially priced at $899 and $999, which is more in line with the price-performance ratio of Nvidia’s RTX 4080 graphics card, which will be a direct competitor to AMD’s new series.

This will be a very important launch for AMD, which will need to deliver equal or better performance than the current RTX 4080 for this series to be successful.
