As AMD and Nvidia have no opposition in the upper-class segment, however, the Red Team makes life difficult for the competition in the middle class. This can also be seen in Mindfactory’s latest sales figures. In one area AMD is far superior to its archrival.
AMD Stock – What a run!
AMD shares have been among the best on the Nasdaq 100 in recent months, will this continue for a long time or is there a threat of a break in the rally?
AMD shares successfully tested support at $1.63 in the summer of 2015. After that, a large demonstration began. Through intermediate stops at $9.85 and $34.14, the value exceeded its all-time high of 2000 by $48.50. In October 2019 the value proved the support at 27.65 USD. Since then, a particularly steep rally section has been set in motion. On January 2, 2020, the stock first rose above 2000 high, but then remained around this level for several days. Since January 16, AMD action has been operating completely above this mark. However, it is now approaching the upper limit of the upward trend since December 2018. The resistance level is at 52.83 USD.
Nvidia weakens in the middle class: AMD dominates sales figures
The best value for money from AMD right now is if you can manage without raytracing and want to buy a new graphics card for around 400 euros. Customers also seem to see it that way, because as Mindfactory’s current sales figures show, AMD clearly has its feet in this price range.
3DCenter has compiled and compared sales figures for Nvidia’s RTX 2060 SUPER, 2070 SUPER, 2080 SUPER as well as AMD’s RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT. The result: in the price segment of around 400 US dollars, AMD was able to sell significantly more graphics cards via the hardware distributors from summer 2019 until the end of the year than Nvidia. While the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT 4,510 and 13,690 respectively were sold over the counter, only 5,315 models of the RTX 2060 SUPER were sold over the counter. This is a clear victory for AMD.
No AMD alternative: Nvidia dominates the upper class
At the same time, Nvidia’s success in the upper price segment is definitely worth mentioning. The RTX 2080 SUPER was however sold 3,490 times, of the RTX 2070 SUPER even 13,175 units left. The fact that the RTX 2070 SUPER sells so well may be due to its attractive price/performance ratio. Offered again and again for approximately 500 euros, it offers almost the same level of performance as an RTX 2080, which however usually costs vaguely 100 euros more.
Of course, Mindfactory’s sales figures do not provide an overview of the entire graphics card market. However, they are a good indicator of trends.
