The data uncovered by Mercury Research seems compelling, with AMD continuing to increase its market share in desktop CPUs over Intel.

The 22.4% market share for CPUs is a record for AMD that has not been matched since 2007 when the Athlon 64 and Phenom series were introduced.

This growth comes just before the AMD Ryzen 5000 series will hit the stores in the coming days. It is quite possible that with this trend we will see a favorable market share for AMD of 25% or more by the end of the year.

Quarter-on-quarter growth was between 4.1% and 22.4% for AMD x86 CPUs. Excluding the OI portion, the share is 20.1%, an increase of 0.9% quarter over quarter and 2.1% year over year: the highest level since the fourth quarter of 2013.

If we go into the notebook market, if we take out the OI, AMD’s share reaches 20.2%, after increasing slightly by 0.3% quarter to quarter, but by 5.5% compared to the same period last year, which is a big growth figure.
