Future AMD 600 series chips may not be as far away as we think, reports suggest. Anonymous “industry” sources at a Taiwanese media company said the next wave of AMD chipsets should arrive in late 2020.
Reports point to the introduction of the AMD 600 chipset series in 2020
As the China Times reported earlier this month, ASMedia is expected to begin production of the AMD B550 and A520 chipsets in the first quarter of this year, focusing on the budget. According to today’s DigiTimes report, ASMedia has already received orders from AMD also for the upcoming 600 series chips. ASMedia and AMD have been friends for years, so it was expected that ASMedia would secure the orders.
It is rumored that the timelines for the new AMD chipsets and processors will be aligned. The China Times estimates that the Zen 3 desktop processors, which will probably be called Ryzen 4000 (codenamed Vermeer), will probably fall in the second half of this year.
It was reported that the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 driver chip from ASMedia should have an increasing demand. The reason for this is that the chips integrated with current Intel CPUs can only support USB 3.2 Gen 2 transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps, while ASMedia’s solution offers twice the performance with up to 20 Gbps.
ASMedia is also preparing a USB 4 controller chip to be released later this year. We will keep you informed about new AMD 600 series motherboards and the new Ryzen 4000 PC processors.
