On March 7, Adobe added a new function “RAW HDR shooting mode” to Lightroom mobile devices. It is installed in iOS version 2.7 and up and for Android version 2.3 and up.
The new feature start functioning on the same day and its usage is totally free.
There are already many smartphones that can create HDR images of high-dynamic range from captured images. But HDR synthesis on a conventional smartphone that combines two images captures a sufficient exposure range in difficult lighting situations is rather a new idea from Adobe.
The RAW HDR shooting mode of Lightroom mobile shoots three DNG files, automatically corrects the position, combines, eliminates ghosts, and tone maps. Combining three pieces of RAW data (DNG format) makes it possible to obtain a wider dynamic range WDR image functioning an HDR picture by two common JPEGs on smartphones. It uses the same HDR technology as the desktop version of Adobe Camera Raw and Lightroom. And it provides equivalent image quality.

So high-quality HDR images are processed with the same algorithm as Adobe Raw Camera and Lightroom’s HDR technology. That is created on a mobile terminal and edited and shared as it is. With Creative Cloud, it is automatically backs up to the cloud including edits, and they are also synchronized to the desktop version. It eliminates the need to work on PC to create Raw HDR.
In addition to the RAW HDR shooting mode, due to this version upgrade. There are functions such as exporting original images, evaluating and reviewing by gestures. And high-speed camera startup with Force Touch correspondence are added in the iOS version. With the Android version, if you are a Creative Cloud member you can now edit lines and circular parts.
