New graphics cards and motherboards supporting the latest generation of the PCIe 4.0 interface will be released soon. With this in mind, the popular benchmark software 3DMark will soon be conducting some tests on the PCI Express interface.
PCI Express (PCIe) is a standard interface that enables high-bandwidth communication between computer devices. The new PCIe 4.0 interfaces offer up to twice the bandwidth of PCI Express 3.0. With more bandwidth, games can transfer more data, shorten load times and support more complex scenes.
3DMark Feature Tests are special tests for specific technologies. The 3DMark PCI Express functional test is designed to measure the bandwidth available on the graphics processor over the PCIe interface. This will help compare bandwidth over generations of PCIe with a test that is quick and easy to use.
The PCI Express feature test will arrive in 3DMark this summer. It will be available as a free upgrade for customers of the 3DMark Advanced Edition and 3DMark Professional Edition with a valid annual license.
PCIe 4.0 offers a transfer rate of 16.0 GT/s per line and about 31.5 GB/s in x16. Currently, this interface will only be available with Ryzen third-generation processors and x570 motherboards, which will be available from July 7th, so we are less than a month away.
