iOS 11.4 drains the battery, how to solve the problem?

With iOS 11.4 installed on the iPhone, some users run out of battery power faster than before the update. This is apparently related to WLAN use in 5 GHz networks. But there is a remedy.

When Apple released iOS 11.4, many users started to install the new operating system, but this apparently led to serious battery problems for many. In some cases, the devices lose up to 10 percent battery capacity per hour.

Apple’s support forums are full of reports from users who have been complaining about noticeable battery problems since installing the iOS update 11.4. Supposedly it doesn’t even help to reset the iPhone to factory settings or simply wait some time until routine work on the system, which often starts after the update, should be finished.

During a very detailed test of all possible settings, one user was able to determine that the battery only runs out quickly if the iPhone is online via WLAN over a 5GHz network. This did not depend on the router or the iPhone model used. The user used four different routers and the iPhone 6, 6S and an iPad for his tests. In all cases, the battery ran out much faster than before iOS 11.4. Initially, there were no problems – they only start when the WLAN connection is lost and the connection is reconnected. The abort took place after 10 to 60 minutes. If the devices were connected to a 2.4Ghz WLAN, there were no interruptions and no breakdowns in battery life.

If the 5GHz band was switched off and only the 2.4GHz band was in use, there were no problems. Since there is no downgrade for iOS 11.4, this is the only solution for those affected before Apple launches an update.
