NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti outperforms RTX 2080 Super in 3DMark

The Turing family is completely outclassed after it was confirmed that the RTX 3060 Ti outperforms the 2080 SUPER in 3DMark.

Although it is not a definitive test, 3DMark allows us to approach a fairly reliable theoretical performance. Weeks ago there was a rumor that the RTX 3060 Ti would have a performance that would put the RTX 2080 in its infancy. It could be confirmed that this new mid-range GPU will leave the upper end of the year 2018 in the dustbins.

To put ourselves in context, let’s have a look at the datasheets of the two graphics cards in comparison.

On paper, the RTX 2080 SUPER is superior to the RTX 3060 Ti, but there is one key that can change everything: the amp architecture. The NVIDIA embargo will be lifted next week, according to the source, so the reviewers will be busy testing this GPU.

Let’s move on to what is important for us: firebug and time spy testing. Starting with Fire Strike the RTX 3060 Ti achieves 30,706 points in the 3DMark test, while the RTX 2080 SUPER achieves about 28,911 points according to our review.

On the other hand, the Time Spy test gives the mid-range GPU 12,175 points, but the RTX 2080 SUPER reaches 11,679 points. Therefore, the previous high-end graphics processor from NVIDIA is below the RTX 3060 Ti.

If we express ourselves in numbers, we speak of a performance gap of 4% to 6%. We thought it was implausible that a GPU in the RTX 3060 range would leave a SUPER in the dust, but Ampere is.

We consider it useful to highlight the source’s reference to the RTX 3070, as it has almost the same characteristics as the RTX 3060 Ti. The first one differs in that it has 1024 CUDA cores more, so it would have 12% more theoretical power.

Importantly, the RTX 3060 Ti’s custom models can provide performance comparable to the RTX 3070 Founders Edition. A deal with NVIDIA 3070 would place it between the RTX 2080 Ti and the RTX 3060 Ti in terms of performance, according to 3DMark’s results.

Finally, it would make sense to measure the RX 6800 XT at 2K and 4K against the RTX 3070. We already did this in the Professional Review and the victory went to the AMD GPU.

Last but not least, the RTX 3060 Ti will be officially launched on December 2, 2020, and the price of its model of the Founders Edition will be 399 dollars, which means that the price in Spain/Europe will be between 400 and 450 euros.

In terms of the stock that will be available for the graphics card, it is not expected that the offer will be greater than that of the other models. We also have to add the factor that it will be a more sought after GPU than the others because of its quality/price ratio.
