XDefiant arrived in May and has been suffering a drop in player numbers for a few weeks now, but this is typical for all games. And despite rumors of a possible cancellation, the executive producer clarified that the game is not in danger.
Mark Rubin stated there were no signs that the game was in danger of shutting down. “We know there are things we need to improve, like Netcode/Hitreg, and add more content to the progression, but the game is doing well,” he mentioned in a recent update on the future of the FPS.
“We just want to make it better. And we do that by addressing the concerns of our community, which has always been the plan,” said XDefiant’s executive producer. He also stressed that Ubisoft continues to support the project and has committed the necessary resources for its continued development.
XDefiant is not dying.
The idea that XDefiant might be nearing its end began to take shape after rumors claimed that the title failed to maintain its initial performance.
So far, Ubisoft has not released official figures for the game, but Twitch gives a good idea of its popularity. While the debut had over 200k streaming viewers, currently the number of views at peak times has dropped to less than 1k people.
Ubisoft recently decided to offer a virtual cash bonus to the community that remained active despite the problems of its premiere. However, this strategy has failed to sway the player base, even with Rubin’s statements that the title is doing well.
