AMD is already preparing the second generation Ryzen Threadripper

AMD’s 2nd generation Ryzen processors have proven to be very successful thanks to new technologies such as Precision Boost 2 or the 12 nm manufacturing process. In the same vein, it seems that we will soon have the new second generation Threadripper chips.

AMD is already preparing the second generation Ryzen Threadripper

AMD has confirmed that it has begun testing Threadripper’s second generation processors, delivering new TR4 Series CPUs with all the benefits of Ryzen’s second generation directly to manufacturers, making AMD’s HEDT options even more attractive than before.

The first generation of Threadripper processors, such as the 1950X, achieve single-core clock speeds that are higher than all AMD desktop offerings, peaking at 4.2 GHz. If the second generation Threadripper follows the same trend, the Threadripper 2950X could set even higher speeds than the Ryzen 7 2700X, creating an impressive product for the server market.

The AMD Threadripper series second generation processors are now expected to be released in the second half of 2018, probably early in the third quarter, and will be compatible with existing X399 TR4 motherboards, so there is no need to invest in new motherboards.
