It takes almost a year with dozens of beta releases and almost editions, finally Wine 2.0 is launched.
With great features improvements and more Microsoft windows programs Wine 2.0 is ready for Linux users. Wine that is abbreviated as Wine is not an emulator. That means it does not virtually create windows environment but directly calls windows API in Linux environment. This makes the memory and space constraints nearly invisible.
Just came across the final version of Wine 2.0 in its stable releases. Wine is a great application for users who are trying to escape from windows environment which taking advantages of windows specific software. New Wine 2.0 bringing users with almost 6600 changes in texture, 2D and 3D graphics, user interface and audio network. Wine 2.0 allows users to run Linux and MAC OS along with Microsoft office 2013 and can even allow run a lot of games using Microsoft direct X 11.
Users who are willing to play games on Linux will also enjoy remarkable progress in graphics reconstruction libraries provided by Microsoft. There are several new features added for direct 3D rendering along with expanded integrity of graphics cards. However there is no full implementation of direct X 11 but the list of games supported is much longer. Using joystick and gaming pads it has capability to enhance gaming experience.
In 2D graphics field there has been much improvements. One of them is drawing window acceleration for bitmaps and interface elements via DIB optimization engine that uses Direct 2D. There is support for high resolution HiDPI with correct scaling of interfacing elements with non standard screen resolutions. Talking about the text and font, It is equipped with additional Direct Write that even can embed fonts in PDF files and have generated glyphs for bitmap fonts.
Talking about sound performance Wine 2.0 is equipped with G Streamer 1.0 and can support audio mixing 5.1 channels and 4.1 channels to stereo by utilizing Direct Sound. While coming the user interface of Wine 2.0 is provides users with new clip board handling opportunities. This new feature has improved copy and paste options and even better pick and drop facility. Desktop taskbar is also added with display of running applications and users have ability to switch between applications. While talking about the networking capabilities Wine 2.0 has improved Java Script performance. Along with the Gecko engine integration in Firefox 47 Wine 2.0 is also equipped with Microsoft web service API which can support SOAP calls.
The full change log can be viewed on the project website , and if you want to install Wine 2.0 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS distributions or on derivative, it can be done using the official PPA repository. For this purpose you have to add the list of repositories command in Linux,
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wine/wine-builds,
and then issue the command
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wine-staging.
