It has been rumored since a long time that single chip computers will be introduced in world to replace personal computing PC. This however will not be as powerful as today’s modern computers but hobbyists will surely enjoy these tiny computers. These small computers provide matchless performance and reliable operations with remarkable cheap price. Time has shown that rumors were true, introduced Raspberry Pi models into embedded market.

The one chip Raspberry pi models were awesome in respective of hardware, tiny space and media streaming. By introducing Raspberry Pi 3 model Raspberry Pi organization have put many great features like wireless support and added RAM for easy streaming and wireless internet connectivity. This prototype is very popular among many hardware developers for creating specific application boards and equally enjoyed by media streaming lovers.

Now introducing the ultimate rival of Raspberry Pi 3 that was launched last year, Asus Tinker Board that offers almost twice powerful specifications. This makes Tinker board to perform such operations which cannot be done with even the latest release of Raspberry pi 3. One of the most common problem of Raspberry Pi 3, they have used 40 nm processor technology, with high I/O operations it lands on heating problems. Asus the Taiwanese company tackled this problem as well.

Asus representative said, it is true they have considered Raspberry Pi models for invention of Tinker Board. As Pi is already playing in market since a long time, we are now giving choice to developers by launching Tinker Board. Asus have taken into account the heating problem of chip. This new platform will give you a support of 4K resolution for enhanced graphics. CPU performance is even better than Raspberry Pi, Ethernet protocols are more faster with high amount of RAM.

While talking about the physical dimensions of the Tinker Board, it still occupies the same space as Raspberry Pi even with enhanced performance and hardware. Arrangement of connectors and GPIO pins are even same as Raspberry Pi, but with the advanced board specifications that will allow doing projects in Tinker board that were impossible to implement in Raspberry pi updated version till now.

Asus Tinker Board Vs Raspberry Pi 3 Model B 3

Comparison Tinker board with latest Raspberry Pi 3 Model B 3 reveals it’s much faster and powerful than Raspberry Pi updated version. The main advantage is the faster processor that is Quad Core Rock Chip RK3288 1.8 GHz with Mali T-764 GPU. 2 GB of RAM and that provides complete support for hardware acceleration of H. 264 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.

Comparing network connectivity Asus tinker board is equipped with strong Giga-bit Ethernet controller. While its sound system is also better than raspberry pi 3 which can support audio streams of 192 KHz/24 Bit, and interestingly for wireless communication there is a space for attaching extra antenna for better wireless connectivity. Asus also promised to be adding many features for GPIO raspberry pi extensions.

Disadvantages of New Device

There are only two disadvantages of this new Tinker Board; one is the increased power consumption. When CPU and GPU of this device are at its full processing it can have a maximum power consumption of up to 10 Watts. That would need heat sinks and cooling fans to operate it specially in hotter areas. The second drawback is the low software database. That is till now its operating system is based on only Debian. However it is expected that with time support for Linux Kernel and even Android 7.0 will also have a support on Tinker Board.

What is the price of Asus Tinker Board?

New Tinker board lands in market with a price of about 55 Euros. That is really competitive as of 35 dollars for Raspberry Pi new model with much lagging hardware and support. It’s up to developers to adopt this new competitor of Raspberry pi on basis of cost effective solutions or to take real advantage of more powerful features.
